Kimi Antonelli could become Formula 1’s youngest world champion as early as the next race in Austin. To clinch the 2026 Drivers’ Championship at the United States Grand Prix, he needs to win while George Russell finishes ninth or lower and Lewis Hamilton finishes fifth or lower.

When is Antonelli’s next race?

The United States Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday 25 October 2026 at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. It is the next round after Singapore.

How can Kimi Antonelli win the F1 title at Austin?

The required finishing positions are:

United States GP title scenario · standings after Singapore
DriverRequired resultPoints after Austin
Kimi AntonelliWin365
George RussellNinth or lower240 or fewer
Lewis HamiltonFifth or lower239 or fewer

After Austin, five Grands Prix remain, offering a maximum of 125 points. This scenario would leave Antonelli at least 125 points ahead. If Russell later drew level, Antonelli’s superior win count would settle the tie in his favour. These totals are calculated from the current standings and the points awarded for those finishes.

Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris are also still mathematically in contention after Singapore. An Antonelli victory in Austin would put the title beyond their reach regardless of where they finish.

Why would Antonelli be the youngest F1 champion?

Sebastian Vettel holds the record, having won his first championship in 2010 at 23 years and 134 days. Antonelli was born on 25 August 2006. On 25 October 2026 he would be 20 years and 61 days old, calculated from his birth date.

A title in Austin would therefore break Vettel’s age record. It remains a possibility rather than an achieved milestone: Antonelli has not yet won the championship.

What changed at the Singapore Grand Prix?

Antonelli finished third in the Grand Prix and fourth in the Sprint. His 20-point weekend took him to 340 points, with Russell on 238 and Hamilton on 229. He leads by 102 points and has eight Grand Prix wins and 14 podiums from 17 rounds.
